How Auctions Work

Auctions are a competitive bidding process where buyers place bids on items. The highest bidder at the end of the auction wins the item. Each bid must be higher than the current highest bid.

Reserve Price

Some auctions have a confidential reserve price — a minimum amount set by the seller that must be met for the sale to complete. If bidding doesn't reach the reserve, the item may not be sold.

Reserve price is set privately by the seller
Bids below reserve may not result in a sale
You'll see a notice if an auction has a reserve price

Fund Holding

When you place a bid, your bid amount is temporarily held to ensure bidding seriousness. This hold is released automatically if any of the following occur:

You are outbid by another bidder
Your bid validity period expires
The auction is cancelled
Another bid is accepted by the seller

Timed vs Open Auctions

There are two types of auctions on our platform, each with different ending conditions:

⏱️

Timed Auction

Has a fixed end date and time. The highest bid when the timer reaches zero wins automatically.

♾️

Open-Ended Auction

No fixed end time. The seller reviews bids and accepts one manually. You may set a bid validity window.
